Shanda Hinton led six cohorts of the Raytheon Technologies (RTX) Re-Empower program through three years of significant company reorganization, including United Technologies (UTC) $23 B acquisition of Rockwell Collins, the spin-offs of the Otis and Carrier businesses of UTC, followed by the $135B merger of UTC and Raytheon to create Raytheon Technologies, one of the largest companies in aerospace and defense. The merger finalized two weeks after the Covid-induced work from home transition. The first cohort of the newly combined RTX Re-Empower Program started mid-September and will run until December 23rd. Shanda will talk to us about how she managed Re-Empower through all of this corporate transition.
UTC was a 2017 member of the Society of Women Engineers/iRelaunch STEM Reentry Task Force, running the first six cohorts of Re-Empower in 2018 and 2019. As a close partner with UTC, iRelaunch's multiple roles included delivering recruiter and manager training, the opening orientation session for each cohort, and the cohort coaching sessions at the mid and endpoint of the program. iRelaunch continues its partnership with RTX on the refreshed Re-Empower program, which is the result of the newly combined UTC Re-Empower program and the Raytheon ReLaunch program which started in 2018 when Raytheon joined the STEM Reentry Task Force.

Shanda Hinton is a Global Diversity & Inclusion Executive at Raytheon Technologies. In her role, Shanda works across the enterprise to develop and deploy talent attraction, development, and engagement strategies and programs in support of advancing Raytheon Technologies’ business and inclusive, diverse workforce.
Shanda has 20 years of human resources experience and has expertise in talent management, talent acquisition, coaching, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and strategic planning. Prior to Raytheon Technologies, Shanda was a Client Advisor with Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm, and led Talent Management and Diversity for a cable division of Comcast NBCUniversal, one of the nation’s leading telecommunications and entertainment companies. Shanda started her career in human resources at CIGNA Corporation where she led efforts in university recruiting and hi-potential leadership development.
In 2017, Shanda led the design and launch of the Re-Empower Program, a program designed to support experienced professionals rebuild and restart their careers with the goal of transitioning into full-time roles across Raytheon Technologies. The Re-Empower Program is now considered a premier program in the re-entry space having received recognition both nationally and locally for its ability to position leaders to accelerate their onboarding, performance, contributions and the overall re-launch of their careers.
Shanda earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Bachelor of Science in Business and Communications from Eastern Connecticut. Shanda is a graduate of Raytheon Technologies’ Leadership Program at the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business and is a certified coach through the International Coach Federation.
